At one time most freestyle skaters would say that they were introduced to freestyle by watching Rodney Mullen videos on YouTube, but times have changed. For many of the younger skaters like Ben, there being influenced by Mike Osterman videos. When Ben saw Mike’s skating style it looked like fun, something that he wanted to try. ”I like freestyle because you can be creative and there’s always another trick or combination to learn, and its fun.” Ben said that he practices about 1 to 3 hours a day with the goal of learning a trick a day.

Ben’s favourite subject at school is History and PE Class. A 9th grader, Ben said, “I also enjoy mountain biking, running, and playing the piano, but recently I’ve moved onto the electric guitar, love playing lots of Megadeth songs.”
