Jacob’s dad placed him on his skateboard when he was around a year old. He seemed to like it so about three years later, he bought Jacob his own board. Over the years, he rode sporadically, but then in September of 2019, he saw some old Youtube videos of Rodney Mullen competing in a freestyle contest. Soon after, he found a link for one of Mike Osterman’s videos, where he was teaching “The First Five Basic Trick Tips.” Jacob fell in love with it and has been skating freestyle ever since. He then started going to Mike’s Sunday Skate Picnics and got some one-on-one training that helped out. “Mike has become my mentor and has helped me grow in the sport so much.”
Jacob is currently attending middle school and plays percussion in the school band. “Percussion is really fun because you get to hit a lot of things with different sounds.” When he is not skating, he loves to draw skateboard graphics, or play basketball, something he has been doing for the past three years.
“I have never entered a freestyle contest before, so I am super happy and really nervous. I’m attending the World Round-Up because I want to see what amateur ranking I can achieve and meet new people.”
